What is Futsal?
Futsal is a variant of soccer that is played on a smaller playing surface and mainly played indoors. Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (and coloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as "hall football." During the sport’s second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name fútbol de salón was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal.
Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Up to seven substitutes per team are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regulation football. The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. This is a great progression for players seeking to improve their outdoor game.
Futsalis played world wide and especially in South America and Europe. Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Xavi, Robinho, and even Kobe Bryant played Futsal in their youth. "In Futsal, you see wether the player is really talented. You'll notice the small details in quality, class, and tactical understanding." Xavi.....
Mustang Soccer League is an official member of the US Futsal Federation www.futsal.com
Why Play Futsal?
Develop soccer skills, have fun and stay fit all at the same time!
Futsal is played between two teams and with five players of which one is the goalkeeper.Emphasis is on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
Mustang professional trainers will be running the sessions. We will follow the open-gym format. This format allows for teams to be formed on the fly during the 5-week season. The one-hour long futsal sessions will be available to boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 5 years old and up.
What To Wear?
Futsal is played inside a gym, so bring rubber soled shoes (not the black ones, as it leaves marks), shin guards, and your regular soccer uniform or shorts/jersey. Bring water as well; players will be running quite a bit and need to stay hydrated. We have pinnies available for teams. We provide the futsal balls for games. These are a smaller and heavier than outdoor soccer balls.
